Bookworms—Please Check In

December 28, 2016

Once a year, I ask all our members of Dr. Joe’s Book of the Month Club to log in and tell me what you liked best, or disliked, about this year’s book selections (the first Wednesday of each month), As you know, “belonging” to the club is most informal: I have no way of knowing how many of you are faithfully responding to my book of the month, how many are reading only some of the books, how many enjoy reading the book promos but don’t actually read any of them. All I ask of you is that once each year, you let me know if you consider these book write-ups to be welcome in your home. Just email me ( Or perhaps you’d like to join us as we begin a new year. Let me know if that’s the case. So please do check in.

In order to help all the new members to check back through the last five years and retrieve book-promos that were posted earlier, I am now listing all 59 books we’ve featured so far—and the dates they were posted.

There is no rhyme or reason, no agenda, as to why I promote a given book. Only that I have to personally cherish a certain author’s books, or feel a certain book is a classic every well-informed book-lover ought to read at least once in a lifetime. Some are new, but most are books that have stood the test of time. Eventually, I’ll possibly bind them all up together in some way. But that would be expensive, so we’ll see.

So, the following entries should bring all of you up-to-date:

(2) Little Women (June 3, 2015)
